![]() Business networking is both an art and a science. Independent distributors, like us who work for SeneGence, have dozens of opportunities every day to make a sale. All we have to do is be able to recognize these opportunities. We must also be capable of casting a wide net. Use the five tips below to increase your odds at finding eager customers looking for the beauty solutions that you can offer. Networking Tip #1 — Put Yourself in the Right Mindset
Independent beauty product distributors and consultants must remember the golden rule of life: “treat others as you would like to be treated.” Put yourself in someone else’s shoes before you approach them as a lead. Try to come up with approaches that emphasize the benefit you are offering to customers. Since SeneGence makes amazing products you cannot find retail and offers them at prices below most counter brands, you genuinely do have something valuable to offer most people. Always remember this when you approach people: you are there to help them, and the money you earn is just a consequence of that transaction. Networking Tip #2 — Remember What You Are and Are Not Selling Going back to point #1, coming up to someone and saying “If you give me X dollars, you can get this Y product” is not always convincing. They have the chance to buy thousands of products every day, and they have little motivation to buy yours over others without any context. So instead of “selling beauty products,” remember that you are offering “beauty solutions.” You have genuine answers to their problems. For instance, LipSense can maintain their lip color for far longer throughout the day. You may know somebody who is hard-working or happens to strike up a conversation with a professional-looking lady. They are likely going to be excited that you can suggest a product that lets them keep their mind on more important things during the day than their lip color. Networking Tip #3 — For Customers, Seeing Is Believing Because of reason #2, offering product demonstrations will be your absolute best method of earning a lead’s interest. You can show them how SeneDerm daytime moisturizers can make their hands instantly softer and more comfortable, for example. You can give them just a touch of ShadowSense to bring out the color in their eyes or their outfit. When you show prospects how transformative your products are, suddenly, they realize that it is something they cannot live without. Networking Tip #4 — Everyone Is a Prospect The simplest way for distributors to start out is to begin talking with close friends, family and acquaintances. You feel more comfortable with people you see every day, and you also have a closer idea of their beauty needs. Try to determine which of your products can offer them the most benefit, and offer them real demonstrations. Talk to literally everyone who wears makeup. Do not be worried about “wasting your time” when you are working with people you personally know. They can become your ambassador to others, talking enthusiastically about the products you showed them and how much of a difference they made. Even if they never give you a single penny personally, acquaintances become a valuable source of leads. Networking Tip #5 — Get Your Favorite Local Businesses to Give Back Got a favorite bagel place or coffee shop you go to every morning? Is there a boutique clothing store you love to browse? Businesses like these attract other like-minded people who may need your beauty solutions. Ask to talk to the manager of the business, and see if you have something you can offer each other. Giving demonstrations to employees can quickly spread word-of-mouth through staff or to customers. Try to go in during a slow period so that their boredom makes the demonstration more exciting. If the manager does not like the idea of a demonstration happening during work hours, offer to throw everyone a makeover party for free. These group demonstrations are great opportunities to get to know your client base more while teaching them the most important benefits of your products. The Sky's the Limit! Once you feel comfortable talking to people you know and businesses you like, you can then work on spreading the word about your amazing products to others. Attend craft fairs and bridal shows. Find out about someone in your church who is getting married, and offer makeovers to the bridal party. After following the tips above, your skills at conveying value and quality to leads will improve, as will your sales. Good luck! Not a SeneGence distributor yet? Contact me today and join my team!
