Have you ever asked-“Is there a lipstick that lasts all day, doesn’t smear and doesn’t leave lips dry and cracked?” After having modeled, albeit many, many years ago, and having managed a department store with a 5 million dollar make-up department, I have had some experience with this question! Like most women, I have a love hate relationship with lipstick. I love the feeling that having beautiful, polished lips gives me. I hate feathery lips, lipstick stains on my teeth and the dried out skin left from wearing it and reapplying it all day.
Air travel can pose multiple beauty challenges. Air travel is a fact of life for many, but for some it is a way of life. Think of the many challenges faced by the beautiful flight attendants of Virgin Airlines. These wonderful girls have to maintain their polished look through the entire flight. Imagine all the smiles they smile. Imagine the wear and tear on lipstick after hours and hours of answering passenger questions, serving food and beverages and enduring the sometimes dry cabin pressure in a contained environment. These beautiful women have little time for themselves as they are “onstage” through the entire flight. Being continually in the view of passengers leaves little opportunity for reapplying lipstick, which is a requirement of the uniform code for Virgin Air.
I had the opportunity to observe some of these wonderful women. Last year I was on a flight from Las Vegas to Los Angles (LA) when I went to the restroom and inside with the door open was one of the flight attendants and she was leaning over towards the mirror putting on lipstick...I said to her that if she had my lip color on (LipSense), she wouldn't have to worry about re-applying all the time. She asked me what lipstick I was talking about and I showed her my stripes on my hand! (I call it my calling card).
Anyway, I told her I had my testers with me and she asked if she could try it on, so I went back to my seat, got my testers, met her in the back of the plane and proceeded to demo to her and to the other 2 attendants on the plane! The girls wanted to know more about what I did and we engaged in conversation about make-up and skincare. They wanted to learn more about keeping their lipstick in check while taking care of all of their duties during flights. Before we knew it, we were having a LipSense fashion show!
These women all need to keep their routine simple. They want to look great from when they leave their homes or hotel rooms in the morning until they get to the next one at night. LipSense gives them that and more. They all bought from me on the spot and then asked me if I could PLEASE come to the beauty expo they were doing in LA in a few weeks, because they said all of the other Virgin Team members would love LipSense too!
I am thrilled to say that as a result of that fun flight, I have been invited for the second year in a row to participate with Virgin America’s Uniform Department who presents “Runway Ready". At this wonderful expo, I get to show off our fabulous products to the wonderful & professional Team Virgin Air! This year they said that I was the most popular booth and they wanted me to do the events in all of the major airports for Virgin.... SFO (May 6), LA (May 20) and JFK (May 27), I am also doing a mini version right here in Las Vegas at McCarran Airport (May 15). There is a mini event in Seattle this month too and my SeneSister and Team member Katie Sevenants is doing that one since she lives there.
Virgin Air treats us vendors so well! They are so kind and thoughtful and make sure that we are fed very well too! The events go from 6:00 am - 7:00 pm so it is a long day, but very fun!
Not only the flight attendants but those that are part of the ground crew, and even the female pilots come to try and buy! SeneGence is actually considering (it is in the works) coming out with a beautiful Red LipSense color called Fly Girl Red, designed to match Virgin America's uniforms, since one of the rules is that they HAVE to have lipstick on when on duty. In an economy where just having a job is “perk” enough, even asking a question like this must seem very bold. Many businesses are cutting back on employee’s hours, cancelling raises and no longer offering a lot of the benefits that they used to need to offer to compete for employees.
Employees find themselves overworked and feeling under-appreciated. As a result, many industrious people go out on their own. When you start your own business, good luck finding perks!
