Top 12 Pantone Colors for Spring 2018

Every season, fashion and makeup lovers alike rejoice for the announcement of the next season’s Pantone Fashion Color Report. The Spring 2018 Report was most recently announced, and the wide array of hues has caused a stir within the makeup community.

The variety of options lean towards being gender neutral, a generally welcome departure from the gender-biased palettes used in recent years. The balance of cooler colors with richer, warmer hues is a refreshing take on the classic ‘Spring’ look that revolves around pastels.

The biggest and boldest color to look forward to that was presented in the Pantone Fashion Color Spring 2018 Report is yellow. This often-unseen shade is rarely on palettes, despite being extraordinarily versatile in many looks. The first, Meadowlark (13-0646), is a bright yellow that plays off of the warmer reds in the palette. Wearable in both clothes and makeup looks, Meadowlark is an excellent balance to its cousin, Lime Punch (13-0550). Lime Punch stands true to its name and punches the viewer with a bright, green-based yellow that will showcase the wearer’s bold personality well.

In the red families, there’s Cherry Tomato (17-1563), which is a red with plenty of hotter orange tones peppered within. Like Meadowlark, it’s a demanding color that stands out and refuses to be ignored. With Cherry Tomato comes Chili Oil (18-1440), which is a significantly more sedated but still hot red. Reminiscent of rust tones that have been so popular over the past few years, Chili Oil is almost a neutral when paired with a brighter tone.

Blues and greens make a strong appearance as well with Little Boy Blue (16-4132) and Arcadia (16-5533). Little Boy Blue’s popularity rose with First Lady Melania Trump’s inaugural outfit, and has been a mainstay in haute couture since. Arcadia is a vibrant teal that brings retro vibes without feeling dated.

Pinks and purples take the main stage in the entirety of the Pantone Fashion Color Spring 2018 Report. Pink Lavender (14-3207), a soft romantic violet, Blooming Dahlia (15-1520), a subtle coral, Ultra Violet (18-3838), a vibrant purple unmatched by any others, Spring Crocus (17-3020), an electric fuchsia, and Almost Mauve (12-2103), a gentle and petal-like pink, the array of pinks and purples brings plenty femininity to an overall gender-neutral palette.

The most intriguing part of the Spring 2018 Pantone palette is that it is 12 colors instead of the traditional 10. No rhyme or reason was stated for this, but it’s safe to say that the creators at the Pantone Institute didn’t want to limit fans of color’s decisions. It will be interesting to see how these colors play into makeup and fashion looks for 2018, but it’s safe to say that we’re on board!
